A brand new-fangled initiative to help exceptional youngsters succeed in their chosen sport has been launched.
West Dunbartonshire Leisure has established the Talented Sports Performer Scheme (TSPS) in firm with West Dunbartonshire Sports Council.
The new-fangled scheme is friendly to persons who compete and train by the side of countrywide or international level and are recognised by their sport’s countrywide governing body.
Youngsters from the area already signed up to the scheme are Iain Allen from Dumbarton, the vice-captain of the under-18 Scottish Rugby League team and 11-year-old Rachel Sugden, from Jamestown, who is part of the Scottish National Junior Squad and the Scottish National Junior Olympic Squad in support of badminton and who plus holds the title of Scottish Primary Schools Champion.
Golfer Jillian Farrell of Dumbarton, a Scottish Golf Union Junior squad limb who has competed in under-14, under-16 and under-18 countrywide championships is part of the scheme.
And 22-year-old swimmer Rory Lamont from Dumbarton whose titles include Scottish 50m crawl champion, British Championship finalist in support of 50m crawl and who is due to compete in the Commonwealth Games trials after that stride.
Another candidate in the scheme is Balloch rower Ryan Morrison, 14, who has been British under-14 singles champion (breaking so as to disc by four seconds), singles, doubles and schoolboys Scottish Champion in the under-14 age crowd. He has plus been part of the under-16 team so as to won the coxed four Scottish Championship.
And 19-year-old golfer Cameron Farrell is plus being supported by the scheme. He is ranked 13th in the Order of Merit and was placed third by the side of the under-18 Scottish Strokeplay Championship.
